Create a Showcase Slide in 2 Minutes

If you need more information about how to perform any of the following steps, either refer to the Showcase page in the System Tour or consult the Showcase online Help, located at the top right of the Showcase window.

  1. Launch Showcase and save the new file in your Home Directory as showcase_sample_slide.sc.

  2. Select Page > Page Gizmo. The Page Gizmo opens. Click the Page Size menu button and choose English > 11 x 8.5 in, or Metric > Landscape , depending on your preference.

  3. Select the "filled" rectangle drawing tool and the yellow color swatch from the Master Gizmo.

  4. Move the mouse to the top left corner of the drawing window. Click and pull down until you reach the bottom right of the window. The entire window should be filled with the rectangle.

  5. Double-click the yellow rectangle you've created. Small red points appear at the corners of the rectangle. Hold down the <Shift> key as you click to select the top two corners of the rectangle. (Red circles appear around the points to indicate they are selected.)

  6. Select the white color swatch from the Master Gizmo. The rectangle should now be nicely shaded from white to yellow.

  7. From the Master Gizmo, select the Label text tool (represented by an "L"), then click the red color swatch.

  8. Select Helvetica as the Font and 48 as the Font size.

  9. Click with the left mouse button in the drawing window to anchor the text position and type "Mystic Sky Productions." Click anywhere outside of the text field to stop inputting text.

  10. From the File menu, choose Import Image. In the dialog box, type: /CDROM/SystemTour/Practice_files/key_image_systour.sgi
The image appears on the screen the next time you click in the drawing window. When it appears, it is selected. You can drag the selected image to reposition it on the page.

Congratulations! You have just created your first Showcase slide!
